Worked example 1

According to a study of 900 residents, the share who sorted their waste for recycling rose from 18% in 2018 to 47% in 2023. In the same years, the share who used disposable tableware every day fell from 39% to 26%. Which statement do these figures support?

Remember: Write down the four figures with their years. Then test each statement against them.

Common mistakes

  • The size of the change is wrong. Take the earlier figure from the later one.
  • The figures moved the other way. Check which year each figure belongs to.
  • Compare the two figures for the same year. The statement puts them the wrong way round.
