Worked example 1

A: ___ your friends play football? B: Yes, they play every Sunday.

Remember: Read B's reply first. Is it about an action or not? Is it about now or the past?

Common mistakes

  • Chose the wrong time. Look at the reply: it shows whether the question is about now or the past.
  • Used are with an action word. Questions about actions start with do, does or did.
  • Mixed up do and does. Does goes with he, she, it or one person; do goes with I, you, we and they.
